Introductory Chemistry can be a challenge, but Lisa Blue, a professor within the Department of Chemistry, eases students' transition to college chemistry with the Chemistry Learning Center. It will serve students of General and Organic Chemistry: answer their questions, provide tutoring, and help students become more confident in their understanding of chemistry.
Chemistry Professor Marcelo Guzman was recently awarded a five year National Science Foundation (NSF) career grant to aid in his atmospheric chemistry research with students here at the University of Kentucky.
The grant will also enable Guzman to extend the reach of the university and chemistry department by strengthening and creating new connections with other institutions such as local high schools.
Fall of 2012 was the perfect time to conduct a class about American electoral politics - so it was taken up as the topic for Currents, a class offered to incoming Freshmen. The course explores the 2012 election from a variety of academic perspectives - including, but not limited to, philosophy, economics, history, and, of course, political science. In this podcast, five Currents students shared their experiences with the class.
John Brown served with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for more than two decades. He served in many capacities, including as a serology examiner, special agent, investigator, and was program manager for the development of the National DNA Indexing System. In this podcast, Brown describes some of his work with the Bureau and how taking chemistry courses at UK gave a solid foundation for the career path he chose.

The Department of Chemistry is excited to welcome professor Chris Richards to its faculty!
Professor Richards joins us this fall to research cell membrane receptors. His research group integrates nanotechnology, neuroscience, and biophysical chemistry, and is developing imaging techniques to investigate how these receptors are involved in the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and addiction.
In room 33 of the Chem-Phys building, you’ll find UK’s laboratory for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR). The facility's director is Anne-Frances Miller, an associate professor of both Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Over 2,500 students take introductory chemistry classes each semester. As the director of general chemistry, Stephen Testa oversees the planning and curricula of each of these introductory courses. In this interview, professor Testa discusses what he and his colleagues are doing to improve the grades, and the experiences, of students fulfilling their chemistry credits.

Each year, the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics and Astronomy jointly organize the Van Winter Memorial Lecture, which brings in distinguished speakers to give lectures on matters of common interest to mathematicians and physicists.
