Undergraduate students seeking to particpate in research opportunities should begin by reviewing the research taking place in the department to determine areas of interest.  Faculty profiles and group websites provide summaries of thier work.  Students can also reference the regional lectures provided by our faculty.  The types of undergraduate research positions can be broken down as follows.

  • Paid undergraduate research positions are available per faculty discretion and respective budgets.  Please contact individual faculty members to inquire if positions are available.
  • Academic credit through CHE 395 and CHE 199.  These arrangements (i.e. contracts) are made through the Director of Undergraduate Studies but must be initially arranged with a faculty member.
  • Research as a volunteer.  Please visit this page for more details.  As with the other options, prior arrangements must be made with a facutly member.

More information about undergraduate research taking place at the Unviersity of Kentucky can be found through the Office of Undergraduate Research.
