ChemCats is a branch of a national organization for students of any major interested in chemistry. By joining ChemCats, you are associating yourself with the American Chemical Society (ACS), the largest scientific society in the world and one of the oldest professional societies in the United States.
ChemCats can provide you with many opportunities to serve your community, to engage socially with other people interested in chemistry, and to learn about the amazing research projects professors are working on right here at UK. We encourage all students to join and all majors are welcome!
If you are interested in joining the UK chapter of ChemCats, simply come by our next meeting (check BBNvolved!) or contact one of our Membership officers:

President Matthew Corbett Major: B.S. Chemistry, B.A. Biology Minor: Mathematics Why Chemistry? Chemistry is the central science that connects everything from physics to biology. As a dual degree student in Chemistry and Biology, I value how it provides the framework to understand life at the molecular level. My passion for medicine and research, especially in Alzheimer’s disease, is grounded in chemistry’s ability to explain mechanisms and inspire solutions that impact human health. |

Vice-President Susma Sah Major: B.S. Biology Minor: Chemistry, Business Why Chemistry? Chemistry gives me a way to understand the world at its most basic level. It explains how molecules interact, how reactions drive change, and how structure determines function. I like that it's both precise and creative, you can predict outcomes with equations but also discover something completely new in the lab. Even in biology, it’s chemistry that makes sense of the processes we see, reminding us that everything in life comes back to chemical principles. |

Treasurer Mandy Glashagel Major: B.S. Chemical Engineering Why Chemistry? Chemistry is the basis of all scientific concepts and it is fundamental for understanding human life. It is applicable for solving real-world problems in many industries such as energy, sustainability, medicine, and manufacturing. My interest is at the intersection of chemical engineering and healthcare, specifically in pharmaceuticals and medical device innovation. |

Secretary Peyton McCubbin Major: Chemistry Why Chemistry? Chemistry is such a vast and interesting field that opens so many doors! Being a chemistry major has allowed me to learn a variety of chemistry disciplines and meet so many people! I have wanted to be a scientist my entire life, and chemistry quickly became a passion for me. Now, as a senior, I only find myself more invested in chemistry with every new thing that I learn. Being involved in chemistry research has allowed me to further this learning and learn valuable skills within the field of chemistry. I intend to pursue a career as a chemist in the future! I have such a passion for chemistry, and I can't wait to learn even more! |
