Enhancing STEM Education

The primary objective of this workshop is to provide a series of plug-and-play mini-modules (5-15 minutes in length) that can be directly incorporated into high school STEM courses and directly matched with a KY Next Generation Science Standard.

All mini-modules can be related to the smartphone to help students connect basic chemistry, physics and engineering to real-world devices, and each mini-module includes the science standard that is addressed (e.g., PS3B: Conservation of Energy and Energy Transfer) to help teachers quickly identify appropriate mini-modules.

Mini-modules focus on display technologies and materials, relating molecular structure to color, the human eye's response to color, basic circuit elements including transistors, simple circuits including supplies to build amplification circuits and energy conversion.

Participants will be provided with supplies for the different mini-modules as well as teaching materials. Hotel accommodations (if required) will be covered by the workshop, and a $300 stipend will be provided to all participants. This year's workshop will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, and conclude at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17.

Registration Deadline: Monday, May 18, at 11:59 p.m.
