STEMCATs Program Bears Fruit

This Living Learning Program gives freshmen a mentored head start on the way to majoring in the sciences and mathematics

Started in 2015, the STEMCats Living Learning Program has helped students majoring within the many and varied areas of the sciences or mathematics find their way to success at UK. And STEMCats peer mentors are a big part of that effort.

The Department of Chemistry would like to congratulate the following winners from this year’s Regional Undergraduate Poster Competition.

Chemistry Undergraduate and Graduate Students Recognized in Graduation & Awards Ceremony

At the Graduation Celebration & Student Awards Ceremony, held Friday, May 5, 2017, in the Jacobs Science Building, several undergraduate and graduate students were recognized.

Three Chemistry Undergraduates Present their Research at Posters at the Capitol in Frankfort, KY

Three chemistry undergraduate researchers from the University of Kentucky, along with more than 200 other student representatives from across the state, presented their research Frankfort, KY, on February 25th to showcase their research to the state legislature at Posters at the Capitol.  

STEMCats: Assisting with Science

While STEMCats may be one of the newest Living Learning Communities on campus, it is providing incoming students with many unique opportunities. Students are not only able to live on campus and take courses with like-minded peers, but STEMCats also allows incoming freshmen students to participate in research and connect with peers, upperclassmen, and professors. In this podcast, we talk with several Undergraduate Instructional Assistants, or UIA’s, who have been building connections with STEMCats freshmen through sharing their experiences.

Second Video in Kentucky EPSCoR Series Features VOEIS Project
In 2009, the Virtual Observatory And Ecological Informatics System (VOEIS) project was launched. Funded by an NSF EPSCoR grant, VOEIS united researchers at five universities in Kentucky and two universities in Montana to research the consequences of environmental changes in freshwater ecosystems.
